Wood Destroying Insect Report If you are selling a home and need a termite inspection, call us today. Termites Termites are a constant threat to buildings across Mississippi. Termite colonies survive in nature by eating wood such as fallen limbs and dead treas. They speed up the decomposition of dead trees and turn these trees back into soil. Termites are, in this aspect, a beneficial insect. Termites stop being beneficial and become a pest, once they begin feeding on the wood in your home. There are two types of termites in Mississippi. The most common is the native Eastern Subterranean Termite. The other is the Formosan Termite. The Formosan Termite is a non-native species that at this time is not a problem in Hinds, Madison, or Rankin counties. (MSU Formosan Termites Article) Eastern Subterranean Termite The Eastern Subterranean termite lives in the soil in large colonies that can grow to well over a million strong. In these colonies there are several castes of termite including workers, solders and reproductives. The worker is the most common termite in the colony and is also the one that does all the damage. These termites are white, almost clear insects. Termite swarmers are active from February to May each year and are what most people think of when they picture a termite. Swarmers are black with wings and are different in appearance from the other termites. Termite swarms can be very large and consist of hundreds or even thousands of termites. These swarms can be very intimidating to a homeowner who comes home to find swarmers flying through their home. If you see what you may think to be termites in your home contact ABC Pest Control.
Termite Treatment When treating for termites, we believe that there is only one option when choosing a termiticide. That choice is clearly Termidor. Termidor is a non-repellant, meaning that the termites pass through the treated area without knowing it is there. Within days the entire termite colony is destroyed. Instead of repelling the termites to another area, Termidor kills the entire colony. There is currently no other product as reliable and that is why it is the only product we use for termites.
